Necklaces: Something old borrowed, something new blue

The Necklace-a recent purchase from Zara, which really does dress up something plain, in fact try to pair it with something more ornate and you might struggle-unless you’re particularly a fan of the more is more look. Come to think of it, it could actually look amazing in winter against a strong brocade. Anyway, for me the backdrop was a plain black tee and jeans-can’t really get much more bog standard. But it did the trick-made me look polished when I was feeling decidedly less so with the rest of my choices that day, the litmus test for any great accessory surely?

The Pearl Collar-made by my Grandma some years ago and could really do with some repair work as some of the stitching has started to come loose but nothing a small tweak couldn’t fix.

She made it for a trip on the QE2, the ultimate cruise liner of its day and no doubt a glamorous and fitting occasion in my Gran’s eyes. It feels rather Breakfast at Tiffany’s and I love the fact that I still have it. I can picture it now working really well with a Markus Lupfer slogan sweater and jeans. It seems only right to give it a new lease of life and I’d like to think Grandma would have approved.
